About

Big Laser Co. began with our own wedding. We wanted the details to feel specific: a book-themed invitation suite, engraved guest book, table pieces, miniature objects, and keepsakes that felt like they belonged to the day instead of a template. We could not find those pieces, so we made them.
Before the shop, Jim spent 15 years in software and systems work, including a decade as a technical lead or above. He worked at companies such as Aetna, Amazon, and Meta/Reality Labs, with work spanning healthcare systems, Alexa, last-mile delivery, display devices, and prototypes. That background is why the shop is built around process: clean files, repeatable setups, careful proofs, and production decisions that do not depend on luck.
His passion has always been building and creating: drawing, designing, volunteering, teaching people how to use 3D printers, helping lead art-community work as a board member and director, and gathering with drawing groups in cafes. He is obsessive about beautiful objects that feel right: the weight, the edge, the finish, the tiny decision that makes something worth keeping. After making our own wedding pieces, the choice became obvious. I would rather spend the workday building real things for real people.
Today, we produce wedding decor, commercial keepsakes, and custom project work out of our Loveland, Colorado workshop. Our shop runs on a large-format Thunder Nova Plus laser, Formlabs and Bambu 3D printers, a full Powermatic woodworking shop, and CAD stations. If it needs art, engineering, and a little stubbornness in the same room, that is the work we like. The sweet spot is wood, acrylic, leather, slate, paperboard, printed parts, fixtures, and carefully finished objects.
We also write software. The production tools we built to run our own shop are going into beta soon under Labs — AI and computer-vision focused laser software for other small shops that want the same edge.
